It's been snowing like crazy up in the Northwest and it's wreaking havoc. The news stations seem to recycle the same news over and over so much that it's not news anymore, it's old. So when some guy at the Washington State Department of Transportation setup a Twitter account and started providing updates, it was a Godsend.
But the updates alone are not what make it great. It's the two-way interaction he's having with people who reply to his posts or ask him questions (I don't know if the person doing it is a he or she, or even if it's the same person). It not only is helpful knowing that someone is listening on the other end, but he has put a human personality to the WSDOT. This is something the Seattle Department of Transportation has massively FAILed at despite having a spokesperson on TV!
Parts of government are working.

Thanks for the post Henry. There were four of us who posted over the last several weeks. Jeremy (me), Wayne, Sharla and our newest member, Chris. Glad to hear you like our use of this tool, I have to say it has been an incredible success story for us to be able to have real conversations with people.
Once the storms are over we are very curious to see how many of our followers stay on to learn more about the agency, regular government isn't that exciting, but just maybe a personal touch to it will keep them interested.
